Nonetheless, cryptocurrencies raise particular challenges for governance and oversight of monetary authority that had not existed in the past (Davis, 2011; Greenberg, 2011), and this generates a significant amount of” excitement” as well (Narayanan et al., 2016). As Farell describes it, “The cryptocurrency market has evolved erratically and at unprecedented speed over the course of its short lifespan.”
Usman’s contributions
Usman is ranked among the top 1% of the more than 370,000 academic authors in readership on the Social Science Research Network (SSRN) the top open-access repository in the world. In 2017, he launched a discussion paper series on Cryptocurrencies that includes some of the most read papers on SSRN in 2017.
Usman W. Chohan is a regular commentator on economic issues and current affairs, notably through Australia’s SBS Multilingual radio in Hindi, French, Urdu, and Spanish. He has also appeared on the BBC, in February, 2017 to discuss international political economy, and in June, 2017 to discuss the Australian economy.
Usman W. Chohan is the President of the International Association of Hyperpolyglots which receives individuals who speak more than six languages fluently, and is himself fluent in seven Indo-European languages (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi), while also conversant in various others. In Canada, his work was used to inform the landmark parliamentary debate on amending the Parliamentary Budget Office Act (C-476, 2013) and he was also one of the main contributor to the Independent Review of the Parliamentary Budget Office of Australia in March, 2017.
History of Usman W. Chohan
Presently, Usman is pursuing a PhD in Economics on a full scholarship from UNSW (Australia) where he is creating the world’s first multidisciplinary synthesis of Independent Legislative Fiscal Institutions. Usman has an MBA from McGill and he has done Masters coursework at MIT-Tsinghua. Usman has also been a Global Shaper of the World Economic Forum.
Usman has previously been a Consultant with the World Bank (Social Accountability, WBI), working on issues of fiscal governance reform, and specifically, the implementation of Independent Legislative Fiscal Institutions (IFIs) to help bring impartial and nonpartisan financial expertise into global governance systems. He is a Global Advisory Board Member of Economists Without Borders. Earlier on, he had served as the Special Situations Analyst in the Global Equities Team at Natcan Investment Management, the investment arm of the National Bank of Canada. The Global Equities team had six global investment professionals including Usman and $3 billion dollars in Assets under Management (AuM).
