High Commissioner for Pakistan’s meeting with the Minister for Environment & Water

The High Commissioner for Pakistan, Mr. Babar Amin, met with the Honourable David Speirs MP, Minister for Environment and Water in his office.

The High Commissioner briefed the Minister and said that, Pakistan and Australia have developed a long-term partnership in agriculture, water management and other related fields which provides an excellent opportunity for collaboration in short and long-term training programmes for capacity building and technical support in the related fields. He added that, Pakistan and Australia have a long history of working together on water conservation and management issues, which also provides a foundation for a strong water partnership with the government in South Australia. The High Commissioner urged the Minister to further build on this foundation and assist Pakistan implement South Australian water resource management technologies.

The High Commissioner also briefed the Minister regarding the new Environmental Policy in Pakistan and said that Pakistan would like to learn from the best practices adopted by the Department of Water and Environment to conserve, sustain the environment and prepare for a changing climate.

The Minister thanked the High Commissioner for the briefing and discussed different aspects of cooperation between the two countries and the means of enhancing them especially in the domains of water conservation and environment. He assured that, there are ample joint research opportunities with Pakistan in different fields and that his Department would like to build long-term relations with the counterpart Departments in Pakistan for the common benefit
