The 76th Independence Day of Pakistan is being celebrated across Australia, with Pakistan’s Missions in Australia and the Pakistan-Australian community organizing various commemorative activities in all major cities.

The main flag-hoisting ceremony was held today at the High Commission for Pakistan in Canberra. High Commissioner H.E. Mr. Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri along with the Pakistani community raised the flag with the national anthem of Pakistan. The flag hoisting proceeded by the recitation from the Holy Quran. The messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were also read out.

Speaking on the occasion, the High Commissioner emphasized the profound significance of the 14th of August. He paid a rich tribute to the visionary founders of Pakistan under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Acknowledging the sacrifices made by the Muslims of the subcontinent, the High Commissioner lauded their aspiration for a progressive, independent, and democratic Muslim nation, underpinned by human rights, social welfare, justice, and the rule of law.

Calling the Pakistani Diaspora the greatest national asset, the High Commissioner appreciated their achievements and the goodwill they have generated for Pakistan. He also acknowledged the contributions made by overseas Pakistanis in the socio-economic development of Pakistan.

The Flag hoisting ceremony was attended by a large number of Pakistani community members in Australia.

The other major events to commemorate the Independence Day of Pakistan are being organized in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, and Darwin.
