High Commissioner for Pakistan’s meeting with the Chief Operating Officer, South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute

The High Commissioner for Pakistan, Mr. Babar Amin, met Ms. Amanda Mcllroy, the Chief Operating Officer, South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute in her office.

The High Commissioner briefed the Chief Operating Officer about the new ‘health vision’ programme of the government in Pakistan and how the government is focused on providing better health care and medical attention to people. He added that, joint research programmes with foreign governments have also been identified as a key area under the ‘health vision’ and Pakistan therefore offers tremendous opportunities for collaborative research with Australia in the medical and paramedical sectors.

The High Commissioner said that, there is a significant Pakistani medical fraternity working in Australia, and in this effort, doctors of Pakistani descent can play an active role. He urged the Chief Operating Officer to explore potential sectors and partners for joint medical research and other projects in Pakistan.

The Chief Operating Officer thanked the High Commissioner for the briefing and also briefed the High Commissioner about different aspects of research and education at the Institute.
